Still, we will try to convey the awe in which the 2009 Mercedes-Benz S-Class leaves those who experience it.
The reviewers at Edmunds.com “set the stage” for their review of the S-Class nicely. “Perhaps no luxury sedan has ferried so many celebrities, foreign dignitaries and well-to-do professionals as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. In recent years, this flagship four-door, with its über-luxurious interior, brand prestige and host of high-tech options, has been one of the finest luxury sedans one can buy.”
Choose from the five models of the 2009 Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The S550 features a 5.5-liter DOHC 32-valve SEFI V8 engine that develops 382 hp and 391 lb/ft of torque. Its standard transmission is a seven-speed automatic. Standard are 18-inch wheels, bi-xenon headlights, leather steering wheel and leather interior trim. Edmunds.com reviewers found the acceleration impressive. “In testing, we've found that this is enough for a 5.4-second zero-to-60 mph time.” Choose the 4MATIC transmission for sure footing on slippery roads.
The S600 steps up performance with 5.5-liter 36-valve, SOHC turbocharged V12 engine mated to a five-speed automatic. This powertrain can move this vehicle zero-to-60 mph in an exhilarating 4.5 seconds. As with the S550, this model features a harman/kardon 600-watt Logic 7 Surround-Sound audio system with 14 speakers, six-disc CD changer and SIRIUS Satellite Radio. The front panoramic power glass tilt and slide sunroof is standard as is four-zone automatic climate control.
The Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG is powered by the AMG-built 6.3-liter DOHC 32-valve V8 with 508 hp and 465 lb/ft of torque. When mated to the standard seven-speed automatic, this model makes the zero-to-60 mph run in 4.5 seconds. Twenty-inch wheels are standard as are the premium upgraded leather seats, Parktronic front and rear electronic parking aid and front power memory seats.
The S65 AMG comes with the AMG-built 6.0-liter SOHC 36-valve biturbo V12. In addition to the blistering 4.2-second time to make the zero-to-60 mph scoot, the V12 impresses with its 604 hp and 738 lb/ft of torque. Its standard transmission is a five-speed automatic.
The 2009 Mercedes-Benz S-Class has integrated a long list of standard safety features and systems and features including electronic stability control, eight airbags and brake assist. Mercedes-Benz PreSafe system helps occupants prepare for a possible crash by automatically tensioning the front seatbelts, repositioning power seats for better airbag protection and closing windows and sunroof.
The build quality of the Mercedes flagships is impeccable and the materials are some of the finest ever fitted by Mercedes-Benz. The available dynamic multi-contour seats are astounding and superbly comfortable.
Reviewers at Edmunds.com found the ride and handling on the 2009 Mercedes-Benz S-Class to be “compliant and fitting for a luxury sedan, yet the heavyweight four-door's capabilities go beyond what you'd expect. The Airmatic suspension system does a fine job gliding over bumps and ruts, and body lean is effectively minimized when the S-Class is equipped with the ABC system.”
Considering its status in the Mercedes-Benz pantheon, the 2009 S-Class must be seen and experienced to fully appreciate its superiority.
